An exciting opportunity to acquire a race-winning Competition Low Drag E-Type.

  • With the 12 original Lightweight E-Types mostly locked into private collections and usually available (if at all) by private treaty sales, this is one of a handful of E-Types accepted by the discerning racing community as the next best thing. As such it is accompanied by an MSA Historical Technical Passport – both certification of the car’s faithful specification and indeed a permit to compete in the greatest historic race meetings around the globe.

For the 50th anniversary of the model in 2011, Jaguar announced their support for a bespoke racing series exclusively for the E-Type. This E-Type Challenge series would tour the world’s greatest race circuits, with a grid of 50 E-Types competing at the highest level. Naturally the first race was for owners to get an entry and the series attracted some 75 applications! One of the first to be accepted however was renowned collector Dick Skipworth, whose Ecurie Ecosse collection was revered around the world.

With his place on the grid guaranteed, Skipworth set about building this super competitive E-Type to the style of one of his favourites: the dramatically beautiful and unspeakably valuable ‘CUT 7’ Low Drag. Based on an original 1962 Series 1 3.8 Coupe this car was completed at great expense with RS Panels – the authority on competition E-Type bodies – hand crafting the aluminium Low Drag tub to the original Malcolm Sayer design and with race preparation by MRM Engineering. The comprehensive spec includes a fully race prepared 3.8-litre engine, E-Type close-ratio gearbox with straight cut gears, limited-slip differential with cooler, full roll cage and long range fuel tank.

  • Right from the start of the E-Type Challenge series the distinctive “Ecurie Ecosse” Low Drag was a formidable force and top results included a win & pole position at Brands Hatch. This result was no flash in the pan and podiums at Silverstone, Oulton Park, Dijon and the Nürburgring established this car as a serious competitor. On the back of this success in 2011, the Low Drag was campaigned through to 2014 with highlights including great 2nd place finishes at Donington’s E-Type Challenge in 2012 and Silverstone’s GT & Sports Car Cup in 2014.

We supplied this car to its last owner in the USA, carrying out circa £10,000-worth of preparation works, and he has successfully enjoyed the car at the Lime Rock Jaguar Club race, Watkins Glen SVRA and a test at Monticello.

This then is not just a fabulous Competition Low Drag E-Type with excellent recent provenance, including Dick Skipworth’s world renowned Ecurie Ecosse Collection, but a rare and exciting invitation into top class historic GT racing.

Please note that this car would be subject to a 5% Historic Vehicle import duty on the price if it stays within the EU.
