Latest Eagle...up the Creek..

Latest Eagle...up the Creek.. Laurence Freedman and Grandson Luca took their freshly delivered Eagle to Eastern Creek, Sydney, for a 'shake down/running in' session. As Australias premier trackday the 'Events O'Neill Burrows day' always attracts an exceptional line up of cars as seen here with Eagle No.19 comfortably nestled ahead of Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini.

The E-Type still however prompted this quote from organiser, Luke's, post event report:

“What a line up in pit lane as well! There must have been a sale on at Ferrari (hahahahaha!) as we had 14 examples of the worlds most recognisable car spanning over 10 years of their recent history - from 355 to 599. Porsche, Lotus, Aston Martin, AMG Mercedes, BMW, Audi, MINI, 4 wheel drive turbo rocket ships and even the odd 'track day special' arrived as well, making it...well...another Burrows Day pit lane! Sensational! The highlight for me however, was the stunning Eagle E-Type Jaguar convertible. This car was hand built in England on an original E-Type chassis with all original parts...except those parts that were seriously upgraded! Like the slotted AP Racing brakes, carbon fibre intakes, full ECU engine management and many other bits that just kept catching your eye. In a sea of seriously quick super dooper cars, the E-Type reminded you why you fell in love with beautiful cars in the first place. Next to the Lamborghini Muira, I believe it's one of the most beautiful cars ever made.”

Well watch out next time when No.19 is 'run in' because this 4.7 litre, 5 speed, ECU, EPAS, A/C, full 'Sport' specification beauty is not just a pretty face!

Most beautiful car of all time (again!)

Most beautiful car of all time (again!) Unsurprising to us here at Eagle the Jaguar E-Type has been voted the most beautiful car by readers of the Daily Telegraph - and it earned 4 times more votes than any other car!

The photo that the Telegraph used (shown here) is Eagle No8 up in the Ashdown Forest and is taken from a Jaguar World magazine front cover.

Route 66 ..... here we come!

Route 66 ..... here we come! In preparation for the JEC's forthcoming 'Route 66 tour' this summer, Nick Bromfield has taken the opportunity to stretch the legs of his lovely series 1 roadster and was kind enough to drop us a line;

"Having participated at the E-Type Club/CKL track day at Goodwood on Tuesday of this week I just wanted to say that 'WAS' totally exceeded my expectations on the track, riding and handling superbly. I did some laps with an instructor/historic Jag racer who immediately remarked that the car had been beautifully set up. This was the first time I had driven 'WAS' in anything approaching anger, and the car flattered my modest abilities! Thank you Eagle!"

Well thank you Nick - and enjoy your time with 'WAS' in the USA this summer.

Eagle V12 Sport facelift

Eagle V12 Sport facelift We are currently conducting minor cosmetic surgery on the latest Eagle V12 Roadster. The basis of the project, which is destined for the Netherlands, is just about the most amazingly rust free example that we have yet seen and it has given us a fabulous canvas to work with.

We are building the car to our V12 'Sport' specification and this includes our special carburettor and induction system which, in conjunction with our custom 12 branch tubular exhaust system, allows the engine to breath properly. It is also having a brand new 6.0 litre engine, 5 speed gearbox, special ignition, Sport suspension with the addition of our very latest bespoke dampers....themselves from the Netherlands.....and advanced cooling system etc etc.

The 'nip tuck' that we are subjecting the body too includes covered headlamps, removal of overiders (work in progress shown here) repositioning of bumpers, flush fitting teardrop indicators and a tidy up to the messy V12 rear end and boot floor.

We look forwards to posting some pictures of the finished product.

All aluminium 4.7 litre engine

All aluminium 4.7 litre engine In conjunction with Crosthwaite and Gardner, further development of our 4.7 litre engine is now well underway..... utilising an aluminium block!

Special 4.7 internals including crankshaft, pistons, and conrods are tried, tested and currently in use in a number of Eagle built E-Types, but the incorporation of this lightweight cylinder block will be a sensational world first. It will save a substantial amount of weight from a critical position in the car.

The raw cast block, even in its chunky unmachined state can be lifted easily by one person - which is not possible with the original iron versions.

It took a whole van load of cores and patterns to produce the traditional sand moulds necassary for such a complicated casting and they are formed in a variety of woods and resins by a highly skilled and experienced traditional craftsman before being sent to another batch of skilled and traditional craftsmen at the foundry.

The cast block has now been machined at the Crosthwaite & Gardner engineering facility and it is soon to come back here for final assembly.

It complements our own well established aluminium 5 speed gearbox perfectly - clearly demonstrating our massive dedication and commitment to the Jaguar E-Type.

Our first two 4.7 litre engines, with fuel injection, will be used in our very special aluminium 'Low Drag Coupe' project and in another very exciting, unique, and special E-Type project that will be announced this year.

Our continual quest for improvement.

Our continual quest for improvement. We maintain a continual programme of developement to improve the Jaguar E-Type, without diluting the original character, and recent upgrades range from such relatively insignificant items as our high power windscreen washer pump – to the much requested and more substantial task of offering an effective air conditioning system.

Additions to our extensive catalogue of upgrades include;

An electric power assisted steering conversion that is almost visually unnoticeable, but is powerful, silent, and transforms ‘in town’ driving, parking, and negotiating hairpin bends. The system is controlled by ECU, is speed sensitive, and increases power assistance only when necessary operating in a lovely unobtrusive manner.

After a huge amount of development in conjunction with a top level manufacturer we offer absolute ‘State of the art’ custom designed and built adjustable dampers that transform the comfort, grip, and ride of our E-Types by staggering proportions. The parameters of adjustment enable huge benefits for both virtually standard style E-Types, and full SuperSport examples.

The photograph shows Dean Bennett and Andy Pitwell working on the new evaporater housing for our second evolution of air conditioning which now gains the benefit of being able to recirculate cabin air, when required, increasing the system effectiveness.

It is no larger than our original system which neatly and satisfactorily countered the primary technical issue of limited space and the need for the components to be hidden from view. The ‘look’ under the bonnet is a very important feature of the E-Type and must not be spoiled.

A separate system to duct fresh air to the face, by means of an adjustable ‘eyeball’ socket, is a further comfort development, and is advantageous to standard E-Types, as well as air conditioned cars - in which cases the vent actually guides refrigerated air.

Adventure rallying

Adventure rallying Mark Grenside and Kirsten Mcconnell (Stop press: Now Mrs Kirsten Grenside.....Congratulations from Eagle!) have now returned from New Zealand having just successfully and enjoyably completed the 2500 mile Kiwi Trial.

Having joked the last time they were in New Zealand (in a lumbering 4x4) how nice it would be to drive their fabulous, ex Win Percy, lightweight E-Type through the stunning countryside, it was fateful that Mark stumbled across an advert for the Kiwi trial on his return home ……….and the rally started on his 50th birthday! No further signs from the Gods were needed.

The adventurous rally included 40 classic cars and ran for two weeks through the almost deserted roads of the South island in breathtaking scenery and included opportunities to sky dive, bungee jump, enjoy helicopter trips to icebergs, visit wineries, watch whales, and even fly over glaciers in vintage aircraft - all in addition to the driving action........Awesome!

Mark & Kirsten had a brilliant time and so next on their agenda is the Himalaya Trial!

It’s great for us all at Eagle to see our cars being enjoyed to the max.

EVO magazine....another 5 star rating.

EVO magazine....another 5 star rating. We were delighted that Graham Clempson happily allowed EVO's hard charging hot shot, Richard Meaden, to experience his Eagle 4.7 litre Super Sport recently.

Richard steps in and out of new Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and the like, on a daily basis and, with that in mind, we hope that you read just how much he liked our 40 year old uprated classic. If you missed it a copy of the article is now available to download here
