Low Drag GT No.5 has taken centre stage at this years Salon Privé Concours as part of an impressive display of 20 legendary cars all in various shades of green. This year marked the 20th anniversary of the Salon Privé event, now a well established fixture on the global concours calendar. The event is held on the lawns of the incredible Blenheim Palace, one of the largest homes in the UK and the childhood residence of Winston Churchill. The palace has also served as a filming location for numerous Hollywood films including being the start point of the car chase in the Spectre James Bond film.
This year the display of cars on the lawns was as impressive as ever, from pre war beauties such as the Mercedes Benz 500K Special Roadster to the latest and greatest hypercars. There was also a display celebrating the Ferrari 250 GTO, with three examples of one of the worlds most valuable cars on display. Another celebration was the 20th anniversary of the Bugatti Veyron which assembled 12 of the record breaking cars together on the lawn.
Each year the centre display of the event revolves around a particular colour, gathering a group of the greatest cars to wear this colour into one curated display. Previous years have seen the Red Collection, Platinum Collection, Yellow Collection and Blue Collection so this year it was time for the Green Collection to celebrate the emerald anniversary of the event. This years selection had an amazing variety of the most significant green cars from throughout the last century. Some of the cars had extremely notable race history such as the only surviving 1927 Bentley 3.0 Works Le Mans car.
The Low Drag GT sat within a lineup of some of the important Jaguars in the world, to the right was an XK120 Works car, one of 6 cars prepare day Jaguar for racing, this particular car won the tourist trophy at the hands of a young Stirling Moss. To the right of the Low Drag GT was an original D-type and a C-type campaigned in period by Duncan Hamilton and Graham Hill. Also in the lineup was the Jaguar CX-75, a concept car that was never built but has now been brought to life by Ian Callum’s Callum Designs. Interestingly the original CX-75 concept featured in the famous James Bond car chase starting at Blenheim Palace!
The selection of road cars in the Green Collection was no less impressive, the Low Drag GT was joined by a Lamborghini Miura, RUF SCR, Porsche Carrera GT, Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg CCX and many more legendary cars in shades of green.
Low Drag GT No.5 was the perfect car for the display, not only does it have stunning metallic green paintwork but the interior is also trimmed in dark green leather so it certainly ticks all of the boxes for the theme. This is not the first appearance at a high profile concours event for Low Drag GT No.5, we also showed it at the Heveningham Concours in 2023 on behalf of the owner.
The weather wasn’t completely on side for the whole weekend but the lineup looked great even in the rain!
